Jean, Gooljar top W Connection awards


EARL JEAN and Sanjiv Gooljar were voted as the "Most Valuable Players" in the respective football and cricket disciplines as W Connection Sports Club held their annual prize-giving ceremony at Gilbert Park, Couva.


The function, on Saturday night, featured presentations to the top performers in both football and cricket.


In football, Jean was awarded both the MVP and the "Golden Boot" as the top goalscorer while fellow St Lucian Elijah Joseph was named the "Most Disciplined Player" and Clyde Leon the "Most Improved."


Like Jean, Matthew Bartholomew was named as the MVP and the leading goalscorer in the Under-18 category, with Akiel Joseph the "Most Disciplined" and Silas Spann the "Most Improved."


Shile Jordan was the MVP in the Under-16 department, while Trent Lougheed scored the most goals, Curtis Julian was the "Most Disciplined" and Keston Smith the "Most Improved."


The cricket club, W Connection Wanderers, named national leg-spinner Gooljar as their leading player for the 2005 season, having captured 61 wickets at an average of 17.34.


Looknauth Ramsuchit copped the Under-21 MVP having scored 405 runs at an average of 135.0 while Jason Samuel took the MVP in the Carib Reserve League department, hitting 172 runs at 38.67.


And ex-national fast bowler Theodore Modeste was named as the team’s "Most Disciplined Player."
