Roy Cape — TT’s master music maker
He first learned to play the steelpan, but then picked up the clarinet and then graduated to the saxophone. The alto saxophone would later become his signature instrument. The 16-member band is the most sought after brass band in the country. The National Carnival Commision (NCC) has named them The Best Playing Band on the Road four times.
The Roy Cape All Stars have11 recordings to their credit, including Blaxx’s “Tusty” for Carnival 2009. Cape was recently honoured for his illustrious music career. Cape was awarded a plaque which commemorated 50 years of music at the Salybia Nature Resort and Spa.

Cool, caring, humble.
2. If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
A lion.
3. What is your favourite food?
Provision and steam fish.
4. Are you a spiritual person?
Yes, God is everything.
5. What is your philosophy on life?
“Care for others as I would like them to care for me.”
6. What was your childhood dream?
To be able to live and also to be a good musician.
7. What does happiness mean to you?
Happiness makes you feel good and loved.
8. What song is stuck in your head?
Sparrow’s “Education”.
9. What are the things you cannot live without?
People.
10. Whom do you wish to emulate in life?
Many people, but mostly Nelson Mandela.
11. What traits do you find most attractive in a mate?
Honesty.
12. What is the most interesting person, place, or thing that you have had the opportunity to meet, learn or experience?
To represent Trinidad and Tobago at the football world cup 2006 in Germany.
13. What is an interesting facet of your personality that most people do not know about you?
I’m very shy.
14. Do you have any vices, flaws or weaknesses?
Smoking cigarettes.
15. What was your most embarrassing experience ever?
Nope, never had one.
16. What is your best time?
Having fun with the guys in the band.
17. Do you have any regrets?
No.
18. What is the one thing you would like to accomplish before you die?
Seeing the musicians get their just dues.
19. What is the best compliment you have every received?
Receiving a national award.
20. If you could live your life all over again, would you choose a different path?
No, not at all.
