PowerGen begin Sunday League defence


POWERGEN will begin defence of their Carib Sunday League limited-overs (50-overs) title at home at their Syne Village Ground playing Endea-vour Sports Club today.


But Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board president Deryck Murray will address players in the CLICO Preysal vs Alescon Comet match at Inshan Ali Park, Preysal, to formally open the league.


And Carib Brewery Public Relations Manager Colin Murray will also meet the players before the start of the encounter scheduled for 9.30 am.


The action in the league, a 50-overs series, will begin with third round fixtures in the three sub-divisions. At stake this season is a winners’ prize of $37,000, with runners up getting $20,000 and losing semi-finalists $2,000 each. Quarter-final losers will each get $1,000.


The winning team in each round will collect $150 while the "Man of the Match" in preliminary round matches get one case of beer each, while the "MOM" in the quarter-finals collect $100 and a case of beer each.


A $200 prize along with a case of beer await the "Man of the Match" in the semi-finals, with the player voted "Man of the Match" in the final getting $500 and a case of beer.
