Guyanese unhappy with accommodation
THE Guyana Cricket Board is concerned over the accommodation provided to their national cricket team currently in Trinidad for the four-day Carib Beer match which ends today at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre. The Guyanese have been placed in a guest house in St Joseph Village. But president of the Guyana Cricket Board, Chetram Singh told Newsday yesterday from Antigua, where he is attending a Cricket World Cup 2007 meeting that he is not to pleased with the arrangements. "We have called for the president of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board Deryck Murray and left a message with his secretary, that we are not happy with the accommodations," said Singh. "We are not satisfied with the living conditions, a lot of players are sharing rooms, there are not enough bathrooms, the dining area is adequate, it just not acceptable and I want to officially lodge a complaint at how the team is being treated," he added. "This is not good for the game of cricket. No country should treat its visitors this way, the players are not happy and they have brought it to the attention of the management. In this day and age, we have to do better," he noted. "When I return to Guyana, I will take this matter up seriously at higher levels, because this is not the first time we have heard of this sort of treatment in the region. But we expected better in Trinidad," an angry Singh told Newsday. Efforts to contact officials of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board were unsuccessful yesterday.
