Hospital workers protest over arrears

DAILY PAID workers at the Scarborough Regional Hospital staged protest action yesterday over arrears owed to them since 2002. The disgruntled workers demanded that negotiations between their bargaining agents the National Union of Government and Federated Workers (NUGFW) and chief executive officer of the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA), Ynolde Seetahal, be conducted in their presence to ensure that their concerns are adequately addressed.

They said lack of transparency was one of the  reasons for the protest. After a meeting with the workers, Seetahal explained that documents on the arrears had been sent to Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Secretary for Health, Cynthia Alfred. She said Alfred recently confirmed that funds had been sourced and the workers could expect to be paid by Friday. The workers said they will continue with the protest until they are paid.
