Kalloo’s son in kidnap attempt
An attempt was made on Monday night to kidnap the 14-year-old son of car rental businessman Gareth Kalloo. Acording to police reports, Pravin Kalloo was leaving the Centre of Excellence after attending the gym around 7.30 pm, when he observed a man he had earlier seen in the gym acting in a suspicious manner. He also observed a car waiting nearby.
The student told police officers he called his driver and, when they were leaving, the driver of the other car began following them. They alerted an E-999 vehicle and reported the matter. A search was carried out for the suspects to no avail. Yesterday, Gareth Kalloo told Newsday he is now concerned about the safety of his children. He added that only recently, bandits broke into a home of a close relative, raped the maid, and stole a quantity of electronic items.
Kalloo said that officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad were alerted and briefed about the possible kidnap attempt. He revealed that he is terrified about the crime situation in the country and may now have to consider putting extra security measures in place to protect his family. Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad are investigating.
