Two to stand trial for Diego murder
TWO MEN accused of murder were yesterday committed to stand trial after Chief Magistrate Sherman Mc Nicolls found that a prima facie case was made against them. Thirty-eight-year-old Mc Donald Bailey of River Estate, Diego Martin, and Gareth Wiseman, 25, of Chaguanas, are both accused of murdering 19-year-old Meshach Samuel of River Estate, Diego Martin. Samuel was shot near his River Estate home on December 12, 2003.
He died at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital later that day. The court heard evidence from nine witnesses called by the prosecution, led by State Attorney Shoba Jamunar. The accused were both represented by Attorney Ian Brooks. Brooks, although not present in court yesterday, was represented by attorney Larry Lalla, who, at the end of Mc Nicolls ruling, noted that there were contradictions in the evidence adduced by the State. As a result, requested of the Chief Magistrate, that the documents be speeded up so the matter could be heard at the High Court as soon as possible.
