Cops hold gunman in sewer
The long arm of the law stretched some 200 feet into an underground sewer system to apprehend a suspect after he was seen with a gun. Officers of the Operations Unit of the San Fernando CID got themselves in the messy situation when they spotted a 32-year-old man brandishing a hand gun at Drayton Street, San Fernando, around 6.30 pm, on Friday.
On seeing the officers the suspect began to run and the officers gave chase on foot, cornering him. In a desperate bid to escape, the suspect jumped into an underground sewer system at Dottin Street. The officers crawled in after the suspect and arrested him. When searched the officers found a .38 revolver containing four live rounds of ammunition and some 20 grammes of cocaine. The exercise was coordinated by Supt Maharaj and included Ag Cpl Haynes, PCs Simth, Bynoe , Teeluck and officers of the Princes Town Task Force. PC Bynoe charged the suspect who is expected to appear in the San Fernando Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
