Sindy is the Miss Arrival World Queen
THE first Miss Indian Arrival World Queen Show, held on Saturday night at the Rudranath Capildeo Learning Resource Centre in Mc Bean, Couva, saw Sindy Ragoonath, 20, of Gasparillo, emerging as the winner. Parading as “Miss Gem Shop,” with hobbies being swimming, dancing and socialising, Ragoonath, a Medical Aesthetician, “wants to continue working with the underprivileged in the community and at the same time would like to be self sufficient.”
Daughter of Deonarine Ragoonath (a Newdsay distributor in Central Trinidad) and Tara Ragoonath, the winner has one brother and one sister and “she would like to continue working with charitable organisations and to be on the bandwagon promoting Indian Culture in Trinidad and Tobago.” Ragoonath hopes that the “Indian Arrival Queen Show would be more recognised because the contestants who compete learn about being more disciplined, boosting their self esteem and as a consequence, becoming better citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.” She won the nod from the panel of judges parading first in a blue evening gown and then in a brown sari which dazzled the audience which included President George Maxwell Richards and First Lady Dr Jean Richards.
First runner-up was Sabrina Gangasingh, 21, of Chaguanas, whose hobbies are swimming, reading and hiking, and who is an employee of RBTT, Chaguanas. The second-runner-up position was filled by Nirmala Matmungal, 20, (Miss Tropical Pharmacy), of Claxton Bay, and whose hobbies are swimming, basketball, art and teaching.
Other titles went to:
Sabrina Gangasingh — Miss Intelligence;
Donna Deepoosingh (Miss Mother Nature) — Miss Amity;
Sindy Ragoonath — Miss Elegance;
Anjanee Rampersad (Miss Ramlagan’s General Hardware and Electrical Ltd) — Miss Photogenic;
