Ma Pau donates $20,500 to charity

THE MA PAU Members Club recently donated $20,500 to charity. The donations to several groups and individuals were presented during a function at the Sweet Lime Restaurant. This year’s recipients included a diabetic, a fire victim, a cancer patient and the Princess Elizabeth Home, whose building had been burglarised twice during the last month. The Home received $3,000. Representative of the Home, Wendy Browne was presented with a cheque for $3,000 by Ma Pau’s public relations officer Sherry Persad and Water One’s Taffari Charles.

Hollis Gonzales, 55, received $5,000 to pay for his dialysis treatment for one month. He has been medically unfit to work for the past eight years and public assistance is his only means of income. His weekly treatments costs $1,250. Natalie Graham, whose Spring Village, Champs Fleurs, home was destroyed by fire collected $1,500 to assist with rebuilding, while little Cassie Joseph, who has been diagnosed with osteoporosis, got a $5,000 donation for medical treatment abroad at a cost of US$15,000. Ria Ragbir accepted a $5,000 cheque on behalf of her sister, Ronell, who has been diagnosed with cancer of the lower femur. Surgery for limb salvage is estimated at US$100,000. Donations were also made to the Caribbean Union College for improvement of the school’s work/study environment, and Sylvia Smith, 82, who lost both her legs to diabetes, will be presented with her wheelchair.
