Morvant woman executed outside home

IN WHAT has been described as a cold-blooded execution, a mother of five was shot dead as she sat outside her home on Pelican Extension Road, Morvant on Saturday night. The body of Marva Sonia Morris, 37, was riddled with bullets. According to investigators, she was shot once to the head and several times about the body. Neighbours told Newsday they heard ten shots and saw a man walking away with a gun in his hand. The incident occurred at around 9.30 pm while Morris, an employee of the San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation, was sitting in front the gate of her house.

A grief-stricken Andre Charles, who said he and Morris had been in a common-law relationship for the last two years, said he believed his wife had been executed but could not say why. He asked: “Why did he kill Marva so?” Charles and his friends were sitting on a step nearby, when the lone gunman walked up and pointed his gun at them. As they ran to safety, the gunman walked up to Morris, shot her in the head, then fired nine more shots about her body as she slumped to the ground. The killer then calmly walked back in the direction from which he came. When the shooting stopped, Charles ran to find Morris gasping for breath. She died seconds later. The police were contacted and the DMO pronounced the woman dead and ordered the body removed to the Forensic Sciences Centre for an autopsy today.
              
Morris leaves to mourn four children, Samantha, 21, Kadema,19, Kim, 12 and Marc, 7. One of her daughters, Kathleen, was murdered four years ago. The woman’s seven-year-old son keeps crying: “I want my mammy.” Morris’ murder brings the total to 104 murders for the year so far, three of them within 24 hours. Earlier in the day Mala Rampersad was fatally stabbed outside her St Augustine home, while Gerald Maingot was shot dead at Wilson Street, Diego Martin. Visiting the scene of the Morvant murder were Senior Supt Bishop, Acting Insp Coa, Cpls Thomas, Ramjit and Ramjohn. Cpl Thomas is continuing inquiries.
