TTPost launches stamps issue for children
STAMP COLLECTING is a meaningful activity that can channel the minds of TT’s young people into a fruitful and productive hobby. Managing director of TTPost Chris Abley made his opinion known to members of the media at the recent launch of the first “Fruity Fun” Children’s Stamp Issue 2004. Abley spoke on behalf of TTPost chairman Patt Christopher. The formal launch of the “Fruity Fun” Children’s Stamp Issue took place at the National Library and Information Systems Authority (NALIS) at the corner of Hart and Abercromby Streets in Port-of-Spain. Abley said that the “Fruity Fun” issue was designed to be educational and enlightening to children of varying age groups.
Abley said: “We are committed to developing the science of philately by instituting in our annual programme a stamp issue which will be designed to appeal to children and to increase their interest and desire in philately as a hobby.” He noted that the “Fruity Fun” issue was vibrantly coloured and designed. Abley also revealed that the printed information provided in the TTPost brochure traced the origin and history of each fruit. “There are even children-friendly recipes included just for you,” he stressed.
Abley said that TTPost was extremely proud to include “Fruity Fun” as part of their Philatelic Programme which, over four years, has evolved into a significant compilation highlighting the various components embodying TT’s history and culture. He noted that for the recent Carnival season, TTPost produced a stamp issue honouring the many vintage calypsonians such as Nap Hepburn, Lord Bryner, the Mighty Sparrow and the Roaring Lion. “In this way, TTPost displays its appreciation for the old and the wise and, now with the launch of this new issue, we identify with the young at heart.”
