Panday: Never give up on education

OPPOSITION LEADER Basdeo Panday said it was important for individuals to open their minds to learning opportunities and never give up on education, particularly “in this technological age.” “Even at my age of 71 I am still surfing the Internet and opening up wide vistas of opportunities to become more informed as the computer age has dawned on us,” he said in the feature address at a graduation ceremony of the Couva North Constituency Distance Learning Centre  on Tuesday afternoon. The venue was Panday’s Couva North Constituency Office at Chase Village in Chaguanas, where the Distance Learning Centre was established in 1999 under Gupta Supersad and Rasheeda Kurdah.

“My dream was always to create an intelligent nation and if I am helping in any way through this centre, then I could consider myself as making an immeasurable contribution to the process of nation-building,” Panday said. Deputy Mayor of Chaguanas Orlando Nagessar, who chaired the function, thanked Panday for his “vision in setting up the centre and for focusing attention on education and training as bases to attain a higher standard of living.”
