Bandits shoot driver; steal taxi

A Bagatelle Road, Diego Martin taxi driver is now listed in an unsatisfactory condition at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital after being shot during a kidnap/robbery attempt. According to information, around 11 pm on Wednesday, Roderick McEachnie, 35, was plying his taxi for hire between Diego Martin and Port-of-Spain when he picked up two men of African descent at Gopaul Lands, Diego Martin. On reaching La Puerta, one of the men stuck a gun to his head and ordered him into the trunk of the car. McEachnie put up a fight, resisting the men’s demand and was shot on the left side of his chest. The men then drove of with his $45,000 taxi, cash and jewelry.
