Man to appear in court on six sex charges
A 38-year-old man is due to re-appear before a Point Fortin magistrate after he was remanded in custody, to answer six counts of sexual assault against his 17-year-old relative of Cedros, today. The accused, a labourer of Icacos Village, Cedros, was arrested and subsequently charged by a party of officers, including PCs Gupta, Banga, Sookraj and WPC Thomas of the Point Fortin CID after they executed a search warrant. Last Thursday the man stood before second court magistrate Rae Roopchand, who denied him bail and sent him to the remand yard pending tracing.
The court heard that the accused allegedly forced his teenage relative to have sexual intercourse with him at her home during a four-year period. The girl reported to the police that the man first forced her to engage in the illicit act on March 1, 2000 and then on June 1, 2004.
He was charged with six offences, which includes, grievous sexual assault, having sexual intercourse with a female under 14 years, having sexual intercourse with a female between 14-16 years on diverse occasions and two counts of rape and serious indecency.
