Car plunges into river

A 37-year-old Penal man is warded at the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) in critical condition after his vehicle slammed into a pavement and a billboard before being partially submerged in a river yesterday. According to police sources, Basdeo Latoo of Sundrees Road, Charlo Village in Penal, was driving his Honda Civic car at around 6.30 am, when he decided to overtake a line of cars along the SS Erin Main Road. While overtaking, Latoo collided with a pick-up truck driven by 50-year-old Sahadeo Ramsaran of Mohess Road in Penal, who was attempting to make a right turn into Boodoo Trace. On hitting Ramsaran’s vehicle, Latoo lost control of his vehicle, which slammed into a nearby billboard and plunged into a river. Latoo was rushed to the SFGH via EHS ambulance, where he was treated and warded, while Ramsaran reportedly escaped serious injury. San Fernando Traffic Branch police are continuing investigations
