Cpl Gray lobbies for President of Police Service and Welfare body

Cpl Alfred Gray has been a police officer for the last 24 years, and he is now running for the post of president of the Police Service and Welfare Association. When he visited Newsday’s office last Friday, he came spouting ideas which he plans to further develop within the first 30 days, should he be elected. His “strategic plan” as he calls it, consists of ten major issues, ranging from changes to the Industrial Relations Act to construction of a recreational/social complex. He said that if he is elected, he plans to take the ideas of the other candidates and develop them under “short, medium and long-term settings so that the objective of the organisation is realised.” One of the issues that he felt strongly about was the Industrial Relations Act. He said that he hopes to change the collective bargaining process from one of negotiation to arbitration. “I plan on amending the Industrial Relations Act to include an arbitration Board with similar functions as the Salary Review Commission, which will look after inter-alia compensation management for police officers.”
