Man held with $1M in liquid ‘coke’ denied bail
BAIL was denied to a 55-year-old Penal taxi-driver who was hauled before the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking more than $1 million in liquid cocaine. Ramlal Sooklal of Best Trace, Penal Rock Road, was remanded in custody until today, after police were ordered to carry out a trace on his background before the issue of bail is tackled at today’s court hearing. Although Sooklal’s attorney Rupert Frank told second court Magistrate Sonia Aleong that his client had no previous or pending convictions, this after a previous cocaine possession charge was dismissed, the court stated its intent to verify Sooklal’s record.
