Montrose PH driver shot dead
MERVYN ADAMS, a Montrose PH driver was shot to death after purchasing some items in a grocery at Enterprise Street, Chaguanas on Wednesday night. Another man, Benjamin Colin, 43, who was sitting in the vicinity of the grocery was also shot and is warded in satisfactory condition at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. His death is the 126th murder for the year. Reports revealed that around 11.40 pm Adams, 47, of Mark Street, Montrose, went to Pap’s Mini Mart to purchase some items. As he parked his car four masked men in a heavily tinted vehicle pulled up behind. They fired a volley of shots at Adams striking him several times. Adams and Colin were rushed to the Chaguanas Health Centre where Adams was pronounced dead on arrival.
Colin was transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was treated and warded. Senior officers said yesterday they were working on two possible motives for the murder. They believe that Adams, a father of two was either marked for death or it was a case of mistaken identity. A party of officers led by Supt Correia, and including Inspector Hubert Kirk, Ag Sgt Ajith Persad, Cpl Hamid and WPC Johnson along with District Medical Officer Dr Mahabir visited the scene. An autospy carried out at the Forensic Sciences Centre yesterday by Dr Hughvon Des Vignes revealed that death was due to shock and haemorrhage consistent with gunshot injuries. George Adams , the dead man’s brother described his brother as a good person, who was a favourite with everyone. He added that Adams had no enemies and never complained of being threatened. Ag Sgt Persad of the Chaguanas CID is investigating.
