Carapo rapist held in Grand Riviere forest
A man suspected of being involved in a series of rapes and robberies in Carapo Village just outside of Arima over the last five months has been held in the Grande Riviere forest. According to a report, Northern Division police, following months of intensive investigations, went deep into the forested area shortly before dawn, where they found the man hiding in a make-shift shed. The man, in his late 30s, was arrested and taken to the La Horquetta police station where the officers were trying to determine the number of matters in which he was involved.
According to police reports there have been more than three dozen reports since the beginning of the year about a group of men forcing themselves into homes and outside facilities at Carapo Village late in the night, robbing families and raping women. Police sources confirmed the man had been moving around from place to place. The man, who will appear before several identification parades over the weekend, will appear before an Arima magistrate on Monday.
