Police search for Vijay comes up empty handed
FOR yet another time, police have come up empty handed in their search for ten-year-old kidnap victim Vijay Persad. Following an anonymous tip yesterday, officers of the Arima Criminal Investigation Department and Northen Division Task Force rushed to two houses in the Cumuto district, where they were told young Vijay was being held. But that raid proved futile. Except for a few broken pieces of furniture, the houses were empty with no sign of recent use.
Vijay was snatched outside his father’s Princes Town business place over a month ago. The kidnappers have demanded $500,000 for his release. The family has offered $20,000, since then no one has seen or heard from the abductors. “We have had many tips like this, but we must and will follow all,” a senior officer assured Newsday. In a passionate plea on Monday, Gregory Aboud, president of the Downtown Owners and Manufacturers Association (DOMA) called on the abductors to release Vijay, no questions asked.
