Panday to tell OAS about constitutional reform
OPPOSITION LEADER Basdeo Panday will have an opportunity to explain why constitutional reform is urgently needed in Trinidad and Tobago when he addresses an upcoming Organisation of American States (OAS) conference in Jamaica in September. In a statement, the UNC said Panday has been invited to speak on the OAS conference in Montego Bay, Jamaica which runs from September 12 - 13. The invitation was extended to Panday during a meeting between the UNC leader and OAS representatives Steven Griner, Rebecca Reichert and Alexander Mejia at the Centre of Execellence, Macoya, on Wednesday.
The upcoming conference will deal with a range of issues such as providing structures to combat corruption, the socio-political affairs of Haiti and political party and electoral reform in the Caribbean. The second half of the conference will focus on “constitutional reform and political parties in the Caribbean.” The UNC said the OAS has also extended an invitation to Panday to attend a follow-up meeting on constitutional reform at the Carter Centre in Atlanta in November.
