MTS dubs protest ‘premature’
The proposed protest today at Whitehall by MTS workers is premature said the company in a statement yesterday. Despite MTS losing contracts to provide security and maintenance to 15 primary schools, the company is retaining its employees who formerly staffed those contracts. “These employees, both janitorial maintenance and security, are currently being redeployed to other locations within the organisation. No-one has been served any retrenchment letters or been informed of any impending retrenchment.” MTS assured it was actively involved in securing the jobs of all its employees. The company invited the workers representative union, the Transport and Industrial Workers Union (TIWU), to join MTS in ensuring job security through peaceful negotiations and quality service. Meanwhile reports are that the union still intends to protest today.
