Ramesh to head back to UNC?

SPECULATION of a reconciliation of political arch rivals Basdeo Panday and Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj was rife yesterday when, during a sugar workers’ meeting, Maharaj spoke of a regrouping of support which will see “a volcanic eruption of national unity in this country.” Maharaj dropped the hint of a political comeback into the folds of the United National Congress at a meeting of 200 plus sugar workers in San Fernando.

Maharaj stopped short of revealing the nature of the national unity party would be saying, “don’t ask me today what it will be. It will be a volcanic eruption of national unity throughout the country. We are seeing the last days of the Manning administration in Government.” Newsday was reliably informed that there have been manoeuvres within the bowels of the UNC for a Maharaj comeback. A “secret” UNC caucus meeting held last month at the Centre of Excellence revealed that Opposition Leader and UNC political leader Basdeo Panday, had gotten a “feel” of how the party’s MPs and executive viewed the reconciliation.
