Vijay released? Not true says police

Unconfirmed reports last night stated that ten-year-old Vijay Persad had been released at the Morvant Junction. However, enquiries from the police indicated that the report was “not true.” Efforts to contact Vijay’s parents last night proved futile. Little Vijay, son of shopkeeper Rajkumar and Marilyn Persad was abducted June 21 by four men from in front his parents’ home at St Mary’s Village in Moruga, after first attempting to gain entry into the shop. In telephone calls to the boy’s parents, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of $500,000 for his release. The family has been praying since for the youngster’s safe return.
