Wahid Ali attacked, beaten

FORMER President of the Senate Dr Wahid Ali was attacked yesterday morning while jogging along St Clair Avenue, St Clair. According to reports, the former Senate President was accosted around 5.45 am by a group of men who demanded cash. When he said he had none, he was kicked, cuffed and pushed to the ground. The men then searched him, found nothing and then left. The injured man made his way back home and made a report to the St Clair Police Station before seeking medical treatment.

Police believe the men who attacked Dr Ali were stragglers from the Summer Fest 2004 Concert held at the Queen’s Park, Savannah which ended a short while before in violence. St Clair Police are investigating. Only last week, acting Inspector Edward Williams, the bodyguard of former President Arthur NR Robinson was shot dead at Smart Street, St Augustine. At the time, Robinson was attending a dinner hosted by UWI lecturer Marjorie Thorpe.
