Bandits beat man for having only $12
A 23-YEAR-OLD Williamsville man was soundly beaten by three bandits who became angry when they discovered their intended victim had a grand total of $12 in his bank account. According to police reports, Aziz Ali, of Poonah Road in Williamsville, boarded a private-hire (PH) car in Marabella around 1 am yesterday, and asked to be taken to his home. Instead, he was taken to Allen Street in Gasparillo, where the three male occupants (including the driver) beat and robbed him of $20, a mobile phone, and wallet. On discovering a bank card in Ali’s wallet, the bandits drove him to a nearby commercial bank, where they forced him to put his card in the ABM and enter his PIN (personal identification number).
When the bandits saw Ali only had $12 in his account, which they were unable to withdraw since the minimum cash withdrawal is $20, they became angry and shoved Ali back into the car. Police said Ali was then driven to a road in the Gasparillo district where the men beat and chastised him for having a mere $12 in his account. After the beating, the men left Ali on the side of the road and sped off. A report was made to Gasparillo police and a team of officers led by Sgt Anthony Charles and WPC Mohan mounted a mobile search for the frustrated bandits. Up to late yesterday no arrests had been made and Gasparillo police are continuing investigations.
