Seven held for Malabar kidnapping

Six men and one woman have been arrested for the false imprisonment and assault of teenager Vanessa Farrier. According to reports, Farrier, 18, was lured out of her St Augustine home to meet a friend at Malabar around 9 am yesterday. At around 10 am, she was taken to a house at Coconut Drive in Malabar, where she was pounced on by six men. The men gagged her, tied her feet and hands, beat her and stabbed her in her hands several times with an ice-pick, demanding to know the whereabouts of a relative and a quantity of drugs and money. Farrier was then taken to an abandoned house on Harrinanan Avenue in Malabar, where she was left with one guard. The teen managed to escape and ran to a nearby laundry, where she told a man that she had been kidnapped.

She was taken to the Malabar Police Post where she was interviewed and then taken to the Arima District Medical Facility where she was treated and discharged. Based on information, police later went to several houses in Malabar where seven persons between the ages of 15 and 25 were arrested. All are expected to appear before an Arima magistrate on Monday. Police heaped praises on themselves for solving the kidnapping, which they claim was solved in two hours. They called on the police administration to provide them with more resources to solve more crimes at a faster rate. “Northern Division got several vehicles, yet we got none. We are part of the division too and need resources to solve crime,” concerned officers grumbled. Visiting the scene were Cpls Riley, Gordon, Madeira, Blacks and PC Greene of the Anti-Kidnaping Squad. Cpl Riley is investigating.
