Maxi driver chopped in Tunapuna

A 50-year-old maxi taxi driver is now warded in stable condition at the Mt Hope Medical Complex after being chopped by an angry would-be passenger. According to reports, around 9.15 pm on Saturday, Archibald Weekes, of Phase 1, La Horquetta, stopped his maxi facing east opposite the Foodmasters Supermarket at the corner of Eastern Main Road and Macoya Road, Tunapuna, to pick up a passenger. Before entering the vehicle, the passenger started inquiring about a certain seat on which another passenger was seated. The incoming passenger and the seated passenger got into an argument which caused the driver to intervene. However as he reached close to the incoming passenger, Weekes was dealt several chop wounds to his body. Screaming passengers alerted a passing car to take him to the hospital while the attacker escaped. Cpl Ashby is continuing inquiries.
