PSNC discusses new pay for pharmacists
THE PUBLIC Sector Negotiating Committee (PSNC) yesterday began discussions on enhanced pay packages for local pharmacists. As those discussions started yesterday, Filipino pharmacists recently brought in to fill critical vacancies in the health sector are being used to provide services in facilities that fall under the respective ambits of the North-West and North-Central Regional Health Authorities (NWRHA and NCRHA). PSNC chairman, Minister in the Ministry of Finance Conrad Enill, confirmed that the committee has begun to discuss proposals that have been advanced for local pharmacists to receive enhanced pay packages. He indicated that the discussions were at a preliminary stage and additional information is being sought to clarify certain issues. Meanwhile, Filipino pharmacists recently recruited by the Health Ministry are working well at various facilities run by the NWRHA and NCRHA. NWRHA communications manager Danielle Jones told Newsday that six Filipino pharmacists have been assigned to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital and have adapted quite well to the system. However, she said the NWRHA is moving the Filipinos throughout the system, especially in places where pharmaceutical services were being provided on a limited basis.
