May 5 is Free Comic Book Day

“The wide array of comic books being published today ensures that readers of all ages – children, teens, and adults – can find something appropriate that will stir their imaginations,” said Warren Alleyne, Events Coordinator of The Genesis Foundation.

According to a release, now in its sixth year, Free Comic Book Day has proven to be a success, spreading the word that comics are terrific reading. “Even if you have never picked up a comic book, stop into The Genesis Foundation because you never know what you will end up finding. The key is just to get there early!”

“We at The Genesis Foundation want to spread the word that comics are alive and well in 2007,” said Troy Rhodes, one of Genesis’ directors. “Comic books and graphic novels are considered hip, hot and smart.” Comic books have propelled to the front ranks of pop culture, many being adapted into movies. Spider-Man 3 hits the big screen on May 4, the day before Free Comic Book Day.

“The first weekend of May is going to be a big day in the comic book world.” In addition to the thousands of free comics that will be given away on May 5, there will be the usual wide selection of comics, graphic novels, trade paperbacks and other comic-related merchandise for sale on the day. Regular updates, information about comic books, are all available by contacting the The Genesis Foundation.

Free Comic Book Day kicks off at 9 am on May 5 and runs until 1 pm at The Genesis Foundation, #1 Rosalino Street, Woodbrook in PoS. Call at 627-8433 or 727-1591 for more information.
