Jaagriti FM voice of COP

And so, after years of perseverance, legal battles and challenges, the SDMS’s 102.7 Radio Jaagriti FM, the official voice of the Maha Sabha hit the airwaves a few months ago.

The SDMS appointed Devant Maharaj the new CEO of 102.7 Radio Jaagriti FM. Maharaj comes to the station after battling the same Manning led PNM administration with charges of racial and political discrimination, many of which landed in the Courts and which the Courts agreed that he (Maharaj) was singled out by the PNM government.

Low and behold, the SDMS, its Secretary General Sat Maharaj, and the Board/trustees of 102.7 Radio Jaagriti FM have literally prostituted the radio station by making it the official voice/radio station of the COP and Winston Dookeran.

How could Sat and Devant, who are the first to cry discrimination; use the airways of the “Hindu Community” to support a non-Hindu Party, led by a Presbyterian, or in fact allow their radio station to be used by any political party whatsoever. They fought years of discrimination and now they are doing just what they fought against!

One remembers clearly Hindu leaders, headed by the same Devant Maharaj, Sat Maharaj and Vijay Narinesingh, trying to get Basdeo Panday to step aside and give way to Winston Dookeran to lead the UNC.

Sat still has not learnt that while he may occupy the seat of Secretary General of the Maha Sabha, he can never be the leader of the Hindus in this country. Sat Maharaj continues to refuse to accept that the Hindus/Indians in this country will continue to have only one leader at a time, and that Leader he can never and never will be, so too for Winston Dookeran.

Not to take away from 102.7 Radio Jaagriti, its programming is sound and indeed it is a welcome breath of fresh air; however, its integrity is in serious jeopardy because of its ringing endorsement and unofficial title as the voice of the COP.
