New large band ‘Kaotic Carnival’ launches Sunday
Speaking with Newsday earlier this week one of the core members Yasmin Charles revealed that the new band is headed by Hayden Harbin who currently resides in Canada and brings out a band every year for Caribana, Canada’s Trini-style Carnival.
With Harbin are 11 other section leaders that include Charles herself, who like Francis Woon Sam, another section leader and Harbin, have been bringing out sections in other big bands over the years.
She added that for the past few years the three of them had spoken about bringing their own band and just after Carnival 2008 they decided to put their words into action and got the band going.
The trio then brought in other interested parties to be part of the movement resulting in those parties heading the other nine sections.
They are Ricardo Gomez who is also the Creative Director, Carla Pillai, Options Entertainment, Foreigners from Canada, Adrian Howell, Chris D’Abreau, Renata Charles, Aldrain Alleyne, Rene Ortiz, Marissa Cipriani and Kesha Quash who heads the only all-female section.
There are multiple designers in this 12-section, all-inclusive large band and road music will come from Imij and Co, as well as DJs Rene, Syndicate and Merry Perry and the Point Fortin Engine Room.
Charles is excited about the launch on Sunday because costumes from all the sections, valued at under $3,000, will be on display.
Charles ended by stating: “The launch is a fete and is open to everybody, regardless of affiliation to any other band.
In the coming week more information on the Woodbrook- based band will be available online via its website: kaoticcarnival.com
