Champions TT crush St Lucia

TT posted the day’s highest score to record the easy win in the Zone B fixture at Mindoo Philip Park, while Jamaica, Barbados and Guyana also registered victories on the opening day of the eight-team championship.

Winners of the inaugural tournament in Jamaica three years ago, TT compiled 209 all-out off 49 overs after they were sent to bat.

Melissa Sandy top-scored for the champions with 54 while Shanelle Lord (34) and Amanda Samaroo (22) also got useful scores.

Ashlene Edward (3-28) and Yasmine St Ange (3-35) shared six wickets to lead the St Lucia bowling.

When St Lucia replied, they struggled to 101 all out off 29.1 overs.

Opener Tara Louis led the home side’s scoring with 40 and Hydie Sandiford stroked 22.

Alice Collins (4-14) and Amanda Samaroo (3-19) were the key bowlers leading TT to victory.

Guyana beat St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) at Monchy Ground in the other Zone B game.

Guyana restricted SVG to just 65 all out off 21 overs.

Opener Lisa Hutchinson (15) and Crystal John (10) were the only players getting to double figures in SVG’s innings, while Timeca Kerr (3-3) was chief wicket-taker for Guyana.

Anganie Lalbachan (2-9), Marina Bridgmohan (2-14) and Heema Singh (2-16) shared six wickets to provide good support for Kerr.

The Guyanese cruised to victory at 66 for four off 9.1 overs.

Shermain Campbell, who made the West Indies trial squad for the Women’s World Cup, top-scored for Guyana with 22, while Venesser Garraway (2-16) and Anika Porter (1-29) picked up wickets for SVG.

Jamaica and Barbados registered their wins in Zone A.

Top contenders Jamaica, with West Indies batting star Stafanie Taylor, steamrolled Dominica at the Dennery Ground.

Electing to bat, Dominica plunged to 30 all out with Tashara Brumant (7) the top-scorer.

Opening bowler Naisha-Ann Waisome snared six for 16 off five overs and Chinelle Henry claimed three for nine for the Jamaicans who then sped to victory at 31 without loss in a mere 2.4 overs.

Taylor was not out on 17 at the end.

Barbados were also huge winners, defeating Grenada at Gros Islet.

Batting first, Grenada scored 37 all out off 11 overs with Mary Alexander (15 not out) getting the top score against West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin (4-4).

Tiffany Thorpe (2-9), Shaquana Quintyne (2-9) and Shanna Thompson (2-15) combined for six wickets to stifle Grenada’s batting before Barbados swept to a nine-wicket victory.

Barbados finished on 38 for one off 6.1 overs with Monique Best (12) and Shaquana Quintyne (4) finishing the job. Shantan Charles took one wicket for one run for the Grenadians. The tournament continues today.
