Droyal Prospect wins Allowance

The young rider had his mount reined in behind leaders Cash It Back and pre-race favourite Leonidas for most of the 1350 metres.

But he sent Droyal Prospect to challenge Leonidas who had taken over leadership 800 metres out, and he scooted into the lead and clear of his field for the victory and the $22,500 winners’ purse.

Leonidas had every chance but faded badly inside the final 200 metres and Cactus Amour and early backmarker rushed past him for the runner-up position.

As a result of his victory, Ali had his apprentice claim reduced from three kilos to two.

Earlier, newcomer Tapui gave a brilliant performance in winning the Restrictec Handicap over 1100 metres on the turf course. The four-year-old having her first race on a local track romped to a comfortable three-length victory in one minute 03.50 seconds, just off the track record with Miss Julie rallying for second and High Dollar Harry third. The popular Hi 5 on the fifth race proved easy pickings for turfites with the payout being just $1,238.70, leaving a single winner bonues of $48,729.36 for the Hi 5 in the day’s finale.

But this too proved easy meat for turfites with the Hi 5 dividend being $8,403.30 leaving the single winner bonus to carry over to ARC Day 16 on Saturday.

Ricardo Jadoo was top jockey of the day with two winning rides, but honours were shared among the trainers with champion Glenn Mendez, arch-rival John O’Brien and Harriram “Pepsi” Gobin each saddling two winners.

On Day 16, turfites will have a race day with a difference with ex-West Indies batting legend Brian Lara’s 40th birthday bash taking place on the in-field of the race track.
