Silas Mack’s PI stays in Chaguanas

The PI is expected to begin in three weeks.

The inquiry may even take the form of a paper-committal.

On Wednesday, prosecutor Veonna Neale told presiding magistrate Nanette Forde-John, that Dana Seetahal, SC, was ready to begin the inquiry.

“Ms Seetahal indicated that she would be ready to proceed in the next three weeks,” Neale said.

She also said that Seetahal informed her that she would like to have all the charges heard in the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court and not in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates court.

Mack, age 33, of Sultan Avenue, and co-accused Ishmael Mohammed are charged with raping, kidnapping and robbing a woman in Chaguanas on July 25, 2008.

Mack is also charged with kidnapping Leah Lammy in February 2008 and stealing her cell phone; the murder of Gail Durity, 19, whose body was discovered in a coconut plantation in Manzanilla; the kidnapping of Sally Lobai, 18, who has been missing since she left her home at Enterprise Village, Chaguanas, in December 2008.

He is also charged with kidnapping Rianna Parag,19, who has been missing since last year and the murder of Devica Lalman, 26, whose body was found in a rice field off Southern Main Road, Cunupia last year.

Deke Rohlehr and Joseph Honore, both of whom are representing Mack and Mohammed respectively were present in court on Wednesday.

Rohlehr told Forde-John that he was in support of proceeding with a paper committal once she was satisfied that a prima facie case had been made out based on the depositions.

The matter was adjourned to November 30.
