Mayor price TATT out Eddie Taylor courts
Over the past few weeks the TATT executive committee have been trying to re-negotiate what they described as “the exorbitant rental charges” of Port-of-Spain Mayor Louis Lee Sing for the use of the Eddie Taylor Public
Courts, King George V Park, St Clair.
According to a TATT official, Lee Sing is calling on the association to pay approximately $7,200 per day for use of the courts.
But this cost has been flatly rejected by the committee which has refused to pay such hefty charges, especially as TATT have no major sponsors.
Apart from the rental charges, participants will also have to cough up $20 for every hour spent on the court daily and $25 per hour, for night matches. Parents have also expressed disgust at the charges especially the additional charge per player.
“It’s a drastic and critical change for the tennis association, players and coaches.
“How do they expect TATT to pay these amounts daily? And, how do they expect parents and players to pay for their matches hourly?” stated an irate parent. The TATT official said Lee Sing also added some unfavourable costs for those who wished to practice and train on the courts.
He mentioned that players training would now have to pay $70 per hour during the day and $80 per hour at night.
