Deplorable national flag

The colour red is washed out to the point it can be considered a very light pink and the colour white is dingy. Also the edges of the flag are frayed with loose threads.

Every morning this flag is hoisted up by firemen of the station. One morning I asked one of the firemen why they don’t change the flag and he told me it was a long story. Does the Fire Service have any National Pride? While I understand due to weather conditions the flag will deteriorate, it cannot be that hard to get a brand new flag.
