Fr Joseph Harris to be ordained today

The ceremony takes place today at 5 pm at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Port-of-Spain. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is expected to attend the event as well as Chief Justice Ivor Archie and Opposition Leader Keith Rowley.

Regional religious leaders will also be in attendance, led by Antilles Episcopal Conference (AEC) president Archbishop Patrick Pinder of The Bahamas and including Dominica’s Bishop Gabriel Malzaire, Castries, St Lucia’s Archbishop Rivas and Archbishop Emeritus Kelvin Felix.

Expected from Jamaica are Archbishop Emeritus Donald Reece, Archbishop Charles Dufour (Kingston) and Bishop Neil Tiedemann of Mandeville. Bishop Vincent Darius of St George’s in Grenada, Bishop Wilhelm de Bekker of Paramaribo, Suriname, Bishop Emmanuel Lafont of Cayenne, French Guiana; and Archbishop Gilbert Marie Michel M?ranville of Saint-Pierre and Fort-de-France, Martinique will also be at the ordination service. Members of the Inter-Religious Organisation and other religious leaders have also been invited to celebrate the ordination, including Anglican Bishop Calvin Bess and Coadjutor Bishop Claude Berkeley.

Father Harris will take over as from Archbishop Edward Gilbert when he turns 75 years old, the canonical age of retirement, on December 26 this year. See Page 1B
