Beckett presents ‘Heart’s Calligraphy’

This exhibition features oil paintings, drawings and poems. The smaller paintings are what I see as her signature pieces of abstract fantasy in nature, featuring the most delicate of flowers, leaves, inflorescence – explosions of energy – mystic dreams – the heart beats of passion.

In this exhibition each series of paintings has its own colour; green for Earth and based, so the artist tells me, on drawings she made in Central, Gran Couva; the yellow for Light (that speaks to me of the sun’s energy); the blue for Mystery (clouds of unknowing); the red for Love (for passion).The drawings are disciplined, exact, stark in detail, demanding attention. And the poems? I look forward to reading them when the exhibition opens – on Tuesday, May 22.
