Walk the Red Carpet with Paparazzi

The newest medium band in the Carnival landscape, and the first in its category to launch it’s 2013 collection, showcased an array of colours and styles designed by local and international designers.

The sections, which include “Indecent Exposure,” “Entourage,” “Scandal,” “Red Carpet Ready,” “Obsession,” “Hot Hollywood,” “French Connection,” “Opulence,” “Uncensored,” “Starstruck” and “Golden Globes” were designed by Karlene Ballah, Leasel Rovedas, Ryck Alexander, Sandra Hordatt, Chad Wharton and Natalie Black-O’Connor.

Although most of the costumes could better be described as simple, there were some interesting aspects of the “red carpet ready” sections. Designers seemed to have placed a lot of emphasis on head pieces which were largely designed with glitzy sequins. Designers also seemed to have targeted the simple yet classy masquerader as the costumes are not very complicated. The epic glitz and sequins seem to be all that is needed for masqueraders to be “red carpet ready” – the “hook line” for Paparazzi Carnival.

“Uncensored” in which designer, Natalie Black-O’Connor aimed for a classy and simple look with lots of glitzy trimmings, featured a headpiece to get excited about. Although the feather work is not very elaborate, the gold head piece well designed with fanciful sequins. Ladies opting to revel with more class come Carnival Tuesday may gravitate towards this section.

Black-O’Connor skipped the bra top and instead created a halter top with gold bindings and a long trail to the centre of the monokini (one piece bikini) and armbands with long fabric attachments. The men opting for this section will wear an armless shirt with a long shirt tail which features gold and trimmings, a black fedora and a knee length pant.

The well designed “Hot Hollywood” section is another simple costume. Designed by Sandra Hordatt, the white costume is a classy bra top and bikini with a long fabric trail to the front with feathered knee bands.

“Golden Globes” designed by Leasel Rovedas, also featured a well sequined headpiece for the women. The guys opting for this section would find themselves heavily glitzed from top to bottom, starting with the head piece, the elaborate neck piece and waist band.

“French Connect” is easy to look at. Women in this section will have an option of a corset top with lots of sequins or the usual bra top. The black and silver costume designed by Karlene Ballah also featured glitzy head pieces.

Of all the costumes showcased, “Hot Hollywood” by Sandra Hordatt and “Obsession,” “Indecent Exposure” and “Opulence,” all designed by Karlene Ballah, seemed to be the costumes with the most glitz and glamour. The burgundy heavily beaded and sequined “Obsession” costume is sure to be turning heads come Carnival Tuesday along with the turquoise and orange festive look of “Indecent Exposure” and the nicely designed green feathery “Opulence.”
