Man climbs fence to be in property he loves

Bruce Mills reappeared in court, having pleaded guilty on March 25, to being in an enclosed property to commit an arrestable offence namely to steal. Mills, a deportee from the United States, reappeared before Port-of-Spain Magistrate Cheron Raphael in the Third Court and maintained his guilty plea. Prosecutor Insp Gale Charles told the court about 8.10 pm on March 23, Estate Corporal Lackpath was at Riverside Drive in Glencoe when he saw Mills climbing over a wire fence.

The prosecutor added that when Lackpath challenged Mills, he ran to the pool area.

However, the officer subsequently found Mills hiding in some bushes.

The court heard that upon arrest Mills said, “I like the house and I wanted to see it.”

Lackpath of SESL limited laid the charge. Mills, who was unrepresented by counsel, yesterday told Magistrate Raphael that he was deported from the USA because of a previous conviction.

But when the magistrate asked for the particulars of the offence he was convicted for, Mills responded he had other convictions.

He was unable to provide the court with any other information and the magistrate postponed her sentence pending his criminal records tracing from Interpol. Raphael denied bail and remanded him into police custody to reappear for sentencing on April 17.

Mills, who spoke with a USA-accent, first appeared before Magistrate Gloria Jasmath in the 11th Court on March 25. She had read out the charge to Mills that the security officer found him inside Glen Tucker’s property to steal.

Mills told Jasmath that he was deported to Trinidad about four years ago from New York.
