Pres, Debe cop top tennis prizes

Naresh Bhola and Anita Mahadeo, both of Presentation College, bagged two titles each on the day. Bhola powered to victory in the Seven-Point Singles while Lu Shaun Marcus (Debe High) finished in runner-up position, Mahadeo was third and Brendon Pasea (Debe High) fourth.

In the Doubles event, Bhola partnered with schoolmate Mahadeo and lifted the crown ahead of Debe’s silver medal team of Alexander Chen and Pasea. Receiving bronze was another Debe team, D Chen/ Marcus.

Mahadeo then added another title to his name when he powered to gold in the Over-15 Bounce Ball category. He once again defeated Marcus, Duncan Chen (Debe High) and Bhola respectively. Alexander would however take top honours in the Under-15 Bounce Ball, with schoolmates Pasea and Kevon Gunneslal filling the next two positions. Point Fortin RC’s Brandon Baptiste finished fourth.

Point Fortin RC also showed class as Baptiste took sweet revenge in the Rally with Coach division. He beat Vessigny’s Akiel Griffith, Point Fortin East’s Keishelle Sandy and Egypt Government’s Martinez Greenidge respectively.

In the Hit the Target, Darrion Baptiste (Point Fortin RC) emerged the victor. He overcame runner-up Keishelle Sandy (Point Fortin East), third placed Martinez Greenidge (Egypt Government) and fourth spot Nyola Griffith (Point Fortin RC).

The O’Brian Alexander contracting firm is based in Point Fortin and has partnered with the San Fernando Zone of the TTTTA. There are many coaching programmes taking place in the San Fernando Zone and this Fun Day focussed on encouraging new young players and allowing them to share in fun activities which test skills in an atmosphere of fun and competitiveness. The novices players in Debe High School, Vessigny Secondary School, Point Fortin RC school, Egypt Government School, Point Fortin East Secondary, St. Stephens College, Presentation College San Fernando and Fyzabad Secondary School were the participants.

Ray Fermin, Akiel John, Hazare Gopaul, Richard Nagaur and Bob Roopnarine are the active coaches in the San Fernando Zone.

There were 27 participants in this Fun Day and all participants had fun while enjoying an atmosphere of participation and skill development.
