Build sea wall near lighthouse
For those not familiar with the geographical structure of the Netherlands, approximately one third of the country is below sea level, Holland being in that area with 60 percent of the population, and flooding being a “way of life” there, a complex system of dams, dikes and pumps control it. Surely people who are experts in this type of situation can offer valuable advice and make a positive contribution to solving our small (to the Dutch) but miserable problem.
Maybe we can put a sea wall south of the lighthouse that can be operated like the dikes to let in or out the sea whenever we want. The flood waters can be pumped into that area when it is empty, and eventually let out into the sea through the dikes. At least that should be the general idea.
I wonder, if any of our “experts” ever considered this angle. It will not take rocket science to solve our problem, just common sense, expertise and money, the latter of which seems to be the only thing we can supply. It is already too late to do anything about City Gate for the upcoming rainy season so all you unfortunate commuters who have to pass through please prepare yourselves for the inevitable flooding.
