Rakesh Yankaran for Williamsville show

The concert will take place at the Williamsville Secondary School.

Guests can look forward to hearing Yankeran perform many favourites from his wide repertoire of classical, film and chutney songs, including including memorable selections of his late father, IsaacYankaran.

Rakesh began his career in 1974, and made to the top ten charts on the local frequencies with “Diyaa Moday Lay Lay,” in 1991. Other hits include “Mousie” and “Dulahin Chale Sa Su Rai.”

He has entered and won many classical and chutney competitions including the National Chutney Monarch competition and the National Traditional Chutney Monarch in 2008. He has also performed on several international stages during his 40-year career.

Ramraji Prabhu has also travelled the world, performing her music. She will also be singing traditional songs as well as classical and film songs at today’s event. She will share the stage with film singer Jairaj Singh.

Speaking about the opportunity to perform with Prabhu, Singh said, “I am proud to be on the same stage with this icon.” He said she has a unique voice that captures her audience wherever she sings.

Prabhu shot to stardom through the Mastana Bahar TV series some 30 years ago. Her rendition of “Jeeni Ray Jeeni” is still remembered and has remained a requested song at cultural functions through the years.
