NNV spends $400,000 on campaign

NNV leader Fuad Abu Bakr is contesting Diego Martin West; teacher Zwade Gervais, 26, is vying for Diego Martin Central; and school-teacher Saaleah Abu Bakr, 26, is standing in Diego Martin North-East.

Tomorrow the NNV will hold a motorcade through these three constituencies, starting at Adam Smith Square, Ariapita Avenue, Port-of-Spain, from 4 pm, and ending at the same venue, where a political meeting will be held at 7 pm and broadcast “live” on Radio 90.1 FM. Speakers include Fuad Abu Bakr.

The statement explained that the NNV’s election funding is from the personal earnings of Fuad Abu Bakr and small contributions from other members.

“Our advertising has been minimal but effective through the sponsoring of sporting activities and community initiatives,” said the statement.

The party said they had also influenced residents by public interaction and small meetings.

“Trinidad and Tobago is yearning for better governance. We can only imagine the figures spent by the other political entities involved and their sources of income,” said the NNV.

“We have made it clear in our manifesto attached that a fund should be set up by the State to facilitate for election advertising and related costs. We advocate for the EBC to regulate spending in a better fashion.” The NNV urged that politicians be taken out of the grip of financiers.

“The people of this country must be the owners of their government.

The NNV is pushing for true democracy.”
