CAL CEO quits

In a statement issued at 6.14 pm, CAL said DiLollo’s decision to quit was due to “personal reasons (and) has received the approval of the Board of Directors.” CAL’s Chief Financial Officer, Tyrone Tang, has been appointed acting CEO while the board conducts a search for “a permanent replacement.” “The board has full confidence in the senior leadership team of Caribbean Airlines to continue to implement the approved corporate strategy of the Company,” CAL stated.

The board also thanked DiLollo for his service to the airline and wished him “all the success in his future endeavours.” This is not the first sudden resignation of a CAL CEO. DiLollo’s appointment, announced on May 20, 2014, came four months after the similar departure of his predecessor, Robert Corbie in September 2013.

DiLollo, a 48-year-old Canadian, previously served as president of Transat Tours Canada, the business unit of Transat AT Incorporated from November 2009 to September 2011.

He was an Airbus A330 captain with diverse experience in the aviation industry, including serving as vice-president of Airline Operations at Medatlantica Group.

Newsday attempted to speak with board Chairman, Philip Marshall, but calls to his phone went unanswered yesterday evening.

Calls to CAL’s line minister, Finance Minister Colm Imbert as well as Communications Minister Maxie Cuffie, also went unanswered.
