Boxing continues tonight at Lara’s ‘Castle’
The series is designed to provide competition for local amateurs bidding to qualify for the Olympic Games and other competitions, and last week’s card, consisting of six bouts, gained the approval of the fans who were invited to attend.
Tonight’s programme promises to do even better.
Last week, Lara spoke to the crowd about bringing on Guyanese fighters, and the TT Amateur Boxing Board has succeeded in doing exactly that. Tonight, three Guyanese and two St Lucians are scheduled to test the mettle of the local amateurs on a seven-bout card.
Heading the TT contingent will be Justin Parris, the Caribbean Junior Featherweight champion and a bronze medallist at the Continental Junior Boxing championships.
Parris will be facing a Guyanese opponent as part of his preparation for the World Youth Championships later this year.
Meanwhile, three of last week’s fighters-- Michael Alexander, Aaron Prince and Anthony Joseph-- will be back for more.
In all, five TT boxers will trade punches with three Guyanese and two St Lucians, while two other bouts will be all-Trinidad and Tobago affairs.
The first bell will sound at about 8.30 pm.
