High testosterone can cause hair loss

Hair loss should not be taken lightly, as it can have a psychological impact on individuals. You may be aware that women carry low levels of androgen called testosterone.

However, most women are not aware of the fact that testosterone levels may differ and may be higher in some women than others.

When a woman begins to exercise, she begins to build muscles and the testosterone levels will begin to increase.

High levels of testosterone in women may contribute to hair loss.

Although you must have the gene to develop androgenetic alopecia (hair loss), it is important to note the reason for the onset of your hair loss.

There are several reasons for this, so identifying the cause is very important to determine the way forward.

Androgenetic alopecia is the most common form of hair loss and most people do not understand that women also carry the androgen – testosterone – which is the culprit or leads to DHT.

We must remember that testosterone helps to define the masculinity in men.

What is important is that women carry testosterone.

So women who practice bodybuilding can exhibit the trait of hair loss very early as the testosterone levels will rise.

This is because of the excessive exercise and the enhancers used to create perfect muscles.

I know of an experience, of a woman who took part in many bodybuilding competitions. At the time, trichology was new to most people and most people were not taking the recommendations seriously.

The same was true for this woman.

Today the understanding is much more advance and muscle building supplements are known to contribute towards issues related to hair loss.

We should also know that, when the levels of estrogen in women decrease, it gives way for testosterone levels to rise, contributing to “free testosterone”, which also contributes to hair loss.

Many drugs are labelled with all the information required, but most people do not read the side effects of the drugs.

Although some may not list hair problems as an issue, one of the stated side effects may be skin rash or some other skin problem. You must remember that the hair is an appendage of the skin, so whatever affects the skin will affect the hair. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), which can be caused by hormonal imbalance, is very common. It is not a new medical problem.

However, drugs used in the treatment of this condition can cause hair loss. Hence, there will be three areas contributing to hair loss that we need to take into consideration: PCOS, hereditary and effects of medication.

The client’s understanding of this is very important because we can only try to fight hair loss by supporting the hormonal system and the body’s ability to absorb nutrition from food and supplements taken. In most cases, the best way forward will be to gradually stop using the drugs that are contributing to your hair loss and use alternative drugs that will not cause the side effects of hair loss.

This takes care of two reasons for the hair loss and we will only have to deal with correcting the hormone balance, which is much easier to do. Always remember that drugs are responsible for different types of hair loss, so once you continue the drugs, hair loss will continue.

There may also be more than one factor contributing to your hair loss, so it is important to seek help in finding the underlying issues of your hair loss. Email your questions to queries@ geesexclusive.com or call 627-4659.
