DHL takes volunteerism to global level
Driven by DHL employees’ enthusiasm to connect with their communities, the Trinidad and Tobago Business Unit led by Mayra Castillo, station manager will partner with non-governmental agency the Just Because Foundation towards the care and provision of children with cancer.
The Just Because Foundation provides emotional, practical and social support for families of children with cancer. They also offer short-term housing for families who travel from remote areas in Trinidad and Tobago and from other Caribbean countries with their children for chemotherapy or radiation treatment in Trinidad.
Global Volunteer Day will involve DHL employees from across all business units in projects and activities to benefit their communities.
“With our network of almost half-a-million colleagues, we reach nearly every corner of the planet,” says Deutsche Post DHL CEO Frank Appel. “As one of the world’s leading logistics companies, we profit from growth from Asia to the Americas, from Europe to Africa. But with this favourable position comes a duty as well; we must contribute to the communities in which we do business.”
Across North, Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean, more than 10,000 DHL volunteers will tackle over 100 projects that will positively impact small, rural areas as well as bustling cities. In many instances, they will collaborate with business partners, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and community agencies.
“We are very excited to join the company-wide movement to help the communities we serve,” said Stephen Fenwick, CEO of DHL Express Americas. “I am extremely proud of our employees throughout the Americas who have signed up, with great enthusiasm, for a wide range of activities that will have a positive impact in their countries.”
Volunteerism is closely linked to DHL’s Corporate Responsibility, which is an integral part of the company’s Group Strategy 2015. Under the motto “Living Responsibility,” the Group focusses on topics protecting the environment (GoGreen), delivering assistance (GoHelp) and championing education (GoTeach).
